Washi Microfinance Uganda Limited
Rise Higher,
Together
We walk alongside micro-entrepreneurs, small businesses and farming communities across Uganda — with collateral-free capital, terms written in plain language, and guidance that lasts long after the loan is disbursed.
01
Capital without collateral
No land titles. No property deeds. Our group micro loan is secured by the trust of the women who stand beside you, not by the assets you do not have.
02
Learning before lending
Every client attends practical workshops on budgeting, cash flow and reinvestment before a shilling is disbursed — then keeps a field coach afterwards.
03
Nothing hidden, ever
Before you sign anything, you receive a single-page Key Facts Statement setting out the full cost of your credit in language you can read and check.
Who we are
The eagle that gives us our name
"Washi" comes from the Japanese word for eagle — 鷲 — a timeless symbol of vision, integrity and strength. Just as the eagle soars with clarity and resilience, Washi was founded on a single commitment: to walk alongside micro-entrepreneurs, farmers and community people across Uganda.
We believe genuine financial inclusion goes beyond capital. It begins with respect, with trust, and with a shared commitment to growth that lasts. Guided by Japanese principles of reliability and community-first service, we combine international standards of governance with a deep understanding of how Ugandan markets really work.
What we stand for
Four pillars of trust
Everything Washi does rests on four commitments. They are not marketing lines — they are the standards our field teams are held to, every single day.
Pillar one
Unvarnished Transparency
No hidden costs
We speak in plain, straightforward language. Every fee, every interest calculation and every repayment term is disclosed to you upfront — with zero hidden charges and no surprise deductions.
Pillar two
Preservation of Dignity
Partners, not dependents
We honour the hustle and ambition of every entrepreneur, farmer and market trader. Borrowing from Washi is a business partnership between equals, conducted with mutual respect.
Pillar three
Steadfast Reliability
Stability in every season
Like an anchor, Washi stands firm beside our clients through prosperous times and economic storms alike. We offer predictable, dependable solutions you can count on.
Pillar four
Shared Prosperity
Growth beyond credit
We measure our success only by the real progress created in the households and businesses we serve. That is why guidance always travels alongside the capital.
How we lend
Built around how you actually trade
Loan products
Finance shaped to your trade
Different businesses breathe at different speeds. A market trader’s week is not a farmer’s season. Our products are built around that difference.
Washi Micro Loan
Our flagship group-based loan for women running established small businesses in urban, peri-urban and rural communities. Collateral-free, repaid weekly.
Washi Small Business Loan
For established enterprises ready to grow past what a micro loan can carry — assessed individually, with a repayment plan matched to your cash flow.
Washi Working Capital Loan
Short-cycle finance for stock, inputs and seasonal demand — so a good trading opportunity is never lost for want of ready cash.
Ready to talk to someone?
Our loan officers work inside the communities they serve. Find your nearest branch, or send us a message and we will call you back.
The journey
From first conversation to first disbursement
We come to you
A Washi loan officer works in your community, visits your business, and explains the programme in your own trading context — never over the phone, never rushed.
You join a group
Between 15 and 25 women from the same community form a group, elect their own leaders, and agree how they will support one another.
We assess together
Your loan is sized to your actual business cash flow — never to the maximum you could technically be given. Over-lending helps nobody.
You are briefed, then paid
Before disbursement you receive your Key Facts Statement and passbook, and a full briefing on your rights and your repayment schedule.
“True financial inclusion goes beyond capital. It begins with respect, trust, and a shared commitment to sustainable growth.”
